Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo

As part of the celebrations marking the anniversary of the founding of Puno, this legendary story is reenacted every November 5. According to tradition, Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo emerged from Lake Titicaca with the mission of founding the Inca civilization and teaching its people. They then traveled north from Puno and, according to the legend, founded Cusco.
